Students with limited experience shooting firearms seeking their License To Carry in Texas are encouraged to complete a beginner's shooting class prior to this class. Clear Shot Austin offers the NRA Basic Pistol class to help beginning students become comfortable and confident with firearms and satisfy this suggestion.

In the state of Texas you are required to pass a 4-6 hour LTC class prior to applying for your license. At Texan Defender we strive to make this experience informative, fun and relaxing. If we notice anyone on the range that obviously does not know what they are doing or is not being responsible or fails to practice safety etiquette on the range, Safety Measures, LLC will not sign off on their certificate and they will NOT get a refund. We recommend inexperienced gun owners to take a Basic Firearm Safety Training course before taking a LTC class.

A unloaded handgun either a Semi-Automatic or Revolver that is at least the minimum of a .32 caliber. Note: Leave your sidearm in your vehicle until we are ready to commence the shooting qualifications. If you qualify with a revolver or semi-automatic you will be able to carry any type of handgun once you get your license.
Also, please bring eyes and ears protection. If you don’t have any, we will have some for sale. If you can’t afford to purchase the necessary accessories, we will provide some that are used.
Please bring 50 rounds of ammo (per person), caliber must be 32 or higher.
If you are going to use our gun(s), please bring 9mm Luger. BE AWARE: If you are going to borrow our guns we DO NOT accept: reloads, Tul-ammo brand, Steel, or Aluminum. We only accept Brass Manufacturer Brands, “Winchester, Remington, etc…”

Description:

The Academy at DFW Gun offers 2 convenient ways to complete the training requirements to receive a license to carry a concealed handgun from the Texas Department of Public Safety. We offer weekend classes, and evening class on Monday and Thursday nights. Upon successful completion of the class and submission of the application materials, the state will issue you a license as soon as 60 days, assuming there is no legal disqualification. Our CHL/LTC class package includes the following:

Training by a DPS certified instructor
Qualify in house on our DPS approved range (indoor, safe, clean, and climate controlled)
Application Preparation Assistance
Handgun (if none available by student) for use during range qualification
Safety glasses, and hearing protection for use during range qualification

Description:

Elm Fork Training Team DPS Certified LTC Instructors will guide you through the laws of the State of Texas concerning Handgun Licensing requirements as well as those laws that regulate License To Carry holders as outlined by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Additional topics include the use of force and deadly force, non-violent conflict resolution, handgun safety, storage and use. This class is at least five hours long to compete the classroom portion. Students must pass a 25-question written exam and demonstrate shooting proficiency on the DPS 50-shot course of fire (a passing score of at least 70% is required for each test).

This course is the state required prerequisite for applying for a new Texas License To Carry (LTC) – formerly Concealed Handgun License (CHL). The course includes classroom coverage of the LTC laws, the required shooting test in our convenient indoor range, and all of the required paperwork. This is a 4-hour training course as required by state law (4 hours does not include time on the range or any breaks we take. It will be between 5 and 6 hours total). This course does NOT teach you how to shoot.

Not your ordinary CHL course. Our instructors are not only state certified, but also have former law enforcement and/or military background. In addition to the state mandated content instructors will also cover topics like: shoot / don’t shoot scenarios, situational awareness, speaking with police, and much more.

The classroom portion will begin at 9:00 am and finish at approximately 1pm-2pm.

For all courses please arrive 30 minutes prior for check in and safety brief. Please come with all necessary equipment and be prepared to start immediately. If you do not have required equipment when you arrive, you can observe the class from the firing line but you may not be able to participate in all shooting drills. Some equipment may be available for rental or purchase from our retail store, please call for details.

Please bring an unloaded handgun (.32 caliber minimum) to class with you in a handbag or appropriate range bag/case. It is recommended you bring 100 rounds of ammunition although 50 rounds are required. The extra 50 rounds are for contingencies. NO RELOADS ARE ALLOWED. The Dallas Pistol Club now offers a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) certified course that is required for those who wish to apply for a Handgun License.

The course is comprised of approximately 4 hours of classroom instruction and up to 2 hours for the live-fire qualification on the DPC range to demonstrate handgun proficiency by the student. The complete course is 5 - 6 hours.

Description:

The Texas License To Carry/Concealed Handgun Course is designed by the Texas Department of Public Safety for moderately experienced shooters. The CHL class is approximately 4-6 hours of instruction followed by a short 50 round live round qualification. It is not recommended for beginners.
Most classes are held in the Arlington/ Fort Worth/ Dallas area. Class location will be individually scheduled with each class.
