First Steps is a classroom-based orientation to build your training foundation. This is a lecture and hands-on course that does not include live-fire.
*No live ammo allowed in the class
During a First Steps 90-minute class you will receive formal exposure to:
• Safe gun handling, safety rules and guidelines
• The different handgun types and why you would prefer one over the other
• Proper handgun grip, stance and other fundamentals
• Popular terms used in the shooting sports and basic functions of a handgun
• How to safely load and unload a handgun
• Understanding of the local requirements for purchasing and owning a firearm
• Introduction to shooting sports opportunities for all levels of interest
The program provides you with a comprehensive introduction to shooting a handgun by certified instructors that includes:
• Firearm safety
• Local ownership requirements
• Shooting fundamentals
• Hands-on instruction
• How and where to continue training with your next class

The second step in your firearms orientation is our First Shots course. This course requires 50 rounds and is a perfect opportunity to lay a solid foundation for safe shooting. New skills, evolutions and experiences will add to your confidence in shooting and prepare you for our Shooting Fundamentals series of classes. First Shots is a 90 minute, range based, introduction to shooting that provides formal exposure to: Grip, stance, sight and trigger management review of ready positions and workspace, dry fire drills Live fire evolutions
Must have:
- Note taking material
- Unloaded firearm and multiple magazines (if you have them)
- 50+ rounds of ammo
- Eye protection; hard shell or custom molded ear protection
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the class in order to be prepared at the posted start time.

Description:
THIS CLASS WILL "ENLIGHTEN" YOU TO THE REALITIES OF DEFENDING YOURSELF IN THE DARK. STUDENTS WILL LEAVE WITH A BETTER UNDERSTANDING AND HIGHER CONFIDENCE LEVEL OF AN OFTEN MISUNDERSTOOD AND RARELY PRACTICED FORM OF ARMED DEFENSE.
Must have:
Handgun of choice with 3 - 5 magazines
Eye and ear protection (hard shell muffs or custom molded)
200 - 300 rounds of target ammo
25 rounds of defensive ammo
Defensive light of choice
Light holster (optional but recommended)
Additional batteries, notepad and pen
