Safety, Operation & Marksmanship Fundamentals.
This course is ideal for those who’ve just purchased a gun and/or have never shot before, but it’s equally suited for more experienced shooters who’ve never received formal, comprehensive instruction. Through classroom and range instruction, students will practice and develop foundational skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. Students will learn basic Firearm Safety Rules, pistol operation, and nomenclature, the Fundamentals of Marksmanship or Range Rules & Etiquette. This offering serves as the cornerstone for all other Stoddard’s Training Academy pistol courses.
Must have:
Ear and Eye Protection (Provided)
Handgun (Rentals are provided if needed)
Please wear long pants with pockets, closed toe shoes (no flip-flops or sandals), and a crew neck (T-shirt) or button-up shirt (no low-cut necklines)
50 Rounds of ammunition (no steel case)
Ammunition is available for purchase on-site, the day of course
If using a rental gun, you must use/ purchase our ammunition

Here’s what you will need:
Sporting Style Rifle/Pistols (no lever actions or single action rifles)
All rifles must contain either front and rear iron sights, a red-dot optic or scope
All rifles must contain a chamber flag when not in use
AR/AK Styled pistols are allowed but must contain an arm brace and must be shouldered when fired
Semi-Automatic Handgun: Must be carried in an OWB Holster only. No IWB holsters (until further notice)
2-3 extra magazines for each firearm
At least 50 rounds of ammo for each firearm (you can use your own if you bring your own guns)

Join us every Thursday in Douglasville for the Stoddard’s Rifle Challenge!
Matches will be similar to IDPA matches but with semi-automatic rifles. There is a 20 shooter max limit to each match. Shooters will have the chance to compete and shoot courses of fire that will test their speed and accuracy all while focusing on safe gun handling in most common scenarios. Shooters can choose to be timed or not. The goal is to provide an environment similar to IDPA and USPSA but where shooters can share similar interests in the rifle community, meet new friends, and better their skills as a shooter.

Stoddard’s is hosting bowling pin shoots in Douglasville on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. Sign-up begins at 5:00 in Douglasville – Shooting starts around 5:30 pm. Registration Fee: Members (included in membership) Non-Members ($5.00 per round / $15.00 for all 3 rounds*) Awards: Each month a Stoddard’s “Certificate of Excellence” shall be awarded, in all divisions, to the shooter participating in both
monthly pin shoots with the best average time.

Each Monday @ 6:30pm in Douglasville and each Wednesday @ 6pm in Midtown, Stoddard’s hosts an International Defensive Pistol Association (“IDPA”) match. IDPA emphasizes the use of practical equipment including real ammunition to solve simulated “real world” self-defense scenarios using practical handguns and holsters that are suitable for self-defense use. The main goal is to test the skill and ability of an individual. On occasion, Stoddard’s also hosts IDPA seminars as an introduction to IDPA. The IDPA seminar, safety in a competition environment will be explained as will terminology used at matches. There will be a brief discussion about equipment used and also an explanation of some firearm handling required by shooters. IDPA’s competition rules will be covered in detail. Finally, scoring will be explained along with procedures you can expect to follow at a match. With the conclusion of the classroom portion, we will move to the range and shoot a short two or three stage match for an opportunity to see what it’s really like.
Must have:
Handgun and holster for it with a sturdy belt; 2 or 3 magazines/speedloaders Approximately 50 rounds of ammunition eye & ear protection Concealment garment (vest, untucked shirt, jacket, etc.) (optional).
